In order to fully understand the rules applicable for regulating internship positions, firstly we will have to differentiate first jobs and internships.

Internship is a working activity as a part of a degree requirement (in-study internships) in university and has an internship contract, that is validated by a third party. First professional experiences after graduation or in activities that do not require specific training considered as a job. Thus, the internship contract is always for a fixed term and has to be three-way agreement between the intern, the employer and a third party (university) before initial studies are over. ⠀

Students, who apply for internship as a holder of student B permit and who are required to complete an internship as part of their studies (according to the official course programme), must follow the condition, that the length of internship does not exceed half the total duration of their course, along with a confirmation letter from the university stating that the internship is an integral part of the program.

Keeping these bullet points in mind, students can have smooth process of application for necessary in-study internship. However, one shouldn’t forget about different changes from canton to canton, as stated in other posts.
